The field trip involved students travelling to the Phoenix Art Museum, which has an Asian gallery with a Chinese art section. The students obtained a deeper understanding of what they learned this year by interacting and observing real-life examples of Chinese culture. Additionally, the students ate lunch in a Chinese restaurant. At the restaurant, students ordered their food and then gave reviews on their food using the target language. This project was essential to help keep the sustainability of the Chinese program at Tonopah Valley High School as it exposed students to authentic Chinese culture. The field trip serves as a reason for more students to sign up for Mandarin classes and garner support from their families to do so. For the community, it helped them know more about China and Chinese culture. Furthermore, it built up a good foundation between Tonopah Valley High School and Ms. Chen’s home school on how to work with each other even after she returns to China.
