Jia Lili (2015) was awarded a CLP grant to conduct a professional development program for teachers in Hebei Province in September 2016. Ms. Jia modeled the program after the professional development training sessions she attended through TCLP and her U.S. host school while teaching Mandarin at Walnut Elementary School in California. She conducted this project in collaboration with two other TCLP alumni: Chen Manman (2015) and Chen Jinyun (2013). The project was supported by the Institute of Education and Research in Shijiazhuang, which invited teachers from schools across the city to participate in the project. Two hundred and seventy-six teachers from twelve different schools ultimately attended the conference and workshops, which took place at No. One Senior High School. Teachers were able to choose training topics that interested them, including “Classroom Management”, “Helping At-risk Students and Class Size”, “English Reading and How to Foster Students’ Reading Ability”, and “How to Solve Your Problems in Teaching ”.

Amany Kasab, current TCLP Exchange Teacher, was awarded a CLP grant to support her efforts organizing a double field trip in New York for her U.S. students and in Cairo for her Egyptian students. Students in New York will visit the Metropolitan Museum and will have a traditional Egyptian lunch in an Egyptian restaurant. Students will explore ancient Egyptian culture and practice conversational Arabic in real life situations. Students in Egypt will visit the Egyptian Museum and interact with tourists in English. They will also write a paragraph in English about their trip and present it to the class. After the field trips, students will make a photo gallery in their schools to show other students their experiences. The photo galleries will be used to generate interest in the target languages of Arabic and English. A virtual meeting will be held between the two schools for the students to engage in cross-cultural discourse.

Welcome to the Alumni Conferences Section of the TCLP Website   TCLP organizes annual conferences for alumni to share and discuss educational best practices in teaching critical languages, developing programs, and effective projects in cross-cultural exchange.  This year's conference took place on December 13 and 14, 2017. The format combined presentations and round-table discussion on Alumni Collaboration. Through this format alumni attendees had the opportunity to learn from the unique perspectives and experiences of their peers and how they developed projects in their home countries and the US. Look out for a new conference in 2018!   Each year, TCLP staff and alumni meet virtually and focus presentations on a specific topic of great interest and benefit to alumni.  If you are interested in suggesting a future topic for an Alumni Conference please share with us!   Send an email to TCLP with specific topics or ideas you would like to see and why. We look forward to hearing your suggestions!
