Since there is a very effective and successful Arabic program in my school, I needed something new that attracts more students and give them real experiences that land them on the Arab world. I thought of the idea of creating an Arab club which is responsible for everything relates to the Arab culture. In this club we offer materials such as: books, clothes, jewelery, perfumes, pottery, accessories, paintings...etc that tell us many things about the Arabs and their lives. All of these things are with a full description and details about its history and why and how it is used. This club also provides some educational materials like: stories and movies that encourage students to learn without even noticing that they are learning. this club is also open for all not only Arabic language learners. All are welcome.

Thanks to the previous TCLP, Irving Elementary School has now an Arabic corner at the school library. I noticed that the addition of a curriculum with a record of the lessons and activities students are exposed to this year will be very beneficial, especially to future TCLPs. My capstone project is based on developing a 10 units curriculum. Units will cover topics such as family, food and drinks, sport and holidays. Through this capstone, I try to compile all the lessons and activities into one set to be a reference for future Arabic teachers at Irving School. The Following is a chart that introduces the different units. School Year 2019/2020 1st term Unit 1: Personal Relations Unit 2: Family Unit 3: At School Unit 4: Food and Drinks Unit 5: Body and Health 2nd term Unit 6: Shopping Unit 7: Sport Unit 8: Hobbies Unit 9: Travels and Means of Transportation Unit 10: Holidays

When I asked my students what do you know about Egypt, they told me about Ancient Egypt and the Pharaohs and they don’t know about Egypt now.I tried to tell them about Egypt through a culture lesson and as we have a library at our school, I checked it to see the kind of books they have about Egypt and I found most of the books are about the Ancient Egyptians and there is only one or two books about Egypt now, so I am thinking of bringing new books about Egypt now.I also can collaborate with my school to make an Arabic fun night for all the families and their kids; it will be a public invitation to introduce the Arabic language and culture for them with the help of the Arabic families and it will be a great chance to ask some people from the district to come as we work to show the district that there truly is a need and an academic benefit of learning a language like Arabic as my school is the only one in the district that teach Arabic. It will be a great chance to motivate other schools apply for TCLP grant.

As I work in an IB school, there is tremendous focus on languages where Arabic is taught along with French, Spanish, and Mandarin. Yet, the school has no Arabic syllabus of its own; that is, no coursebook for teaching this language even though students – of all different levels – study it on a daily basis. This fact has arisen my interest to start this project that aims at starting to develop an Arabic syllabus that could be used by future teachers of Arabic at the school. It is an attempt to compile all the lessons that I have been conducting along with some other materials into one or more digital files. This could include lessons, worksheets, links to songs and videos to be used, flashcards and games. So, this proposed digital file could serve as a reference or coursebook for any future teacher of Arabic by which they would accompany this academic course.

The 1st para of the capstone project The capstone project could foster a multicultural library for our school- providing resources across themes of various texts that are represented across languages, culture folktales and representative of modalities of storytelling- books, videos, songs, holidays, etc. We could use between $500-$3000 to offer translation units for parents- we could get speaker receiver units for live translation. We could also offer the entire school community access to texts across languages and various resources to represent the cultures of our school. We could include songs, videos, movies and create various clubs that utilize the materials- world cultures club- allowing students to be exposed to different cultures and learning about the mandarin culture. I will share lesson resources such as my lesson plans, PPT, videos of songs and dances, hands-on activities documents and materials. I will make connections to various themes and cultural events. In his way, after I leave, the teachers of the school can still use the Mandarin material I leave to meet the needs of the school, creating multicultural resources ready for use by the school community.

My capstone abstract is about the use of different games and activities outside the ordinary classroom to increase the students' different skills and to create a fun and pure educational atmosphere and let all kinds of learners to participate freely without stress., In my capstone project, I will mention some of these games and activities, for example, I use the "heads up" activity in which I ask one of the students to wear a crown with an Arabic word on and the student ask their peers questions until he or she reaches the word. Another activity is the " hot seat" activity in which I ask one of the learners to come to the front of the class and his peers start asking him questions about the day's topic and sometimes it can be done like an open discussion about what they learnt before. The next game is the playing cards game which has the same idea of the playing cards which people use as I divide students into groups and each group has two teams with cards in hands and cards on the grounds and the team which is his turn to play, they should match the card with one of the same category, for example, if he has a food item, he can take another food item with it and if he doesn't have what matches with his card, he has to put it with the cards on the ground, waiting for the other team to play. Another simple and fun game is the swat game which provides good kind of activation. One game else is the speaking dice game in which I give every student a number and I offer some cards with words that are put upside down and when I use the dice, the student chooses a card and use the word he chooses in a sentence on his own. The next game is the jumping ball game in which I use the ball and throw it to students to mention a kind of words that I ask them to say. The next activity is the line up activity in which I ask students to stand in two lines and every student faces his partner and they practise speaking using the day's targeted language. There are also very beneficial activities that I use and I mention them in my capstone project like the catching tissue game, the vocabulary classification game, the wall chart activities and the name counting game. So the target of this capstone is to let students increase their language skills during the after school Arabic club and that could be once a week.

The two Chinese clubs in the two feeder middle school can really bring a lot interests to students to take Chinese. Many students who sign up for the club may take Chinese classes when they get into high school. It will increase the energy, enthusiasm and excitement around the students to take Chinese. In the club we will do: Celebrate Chinese holidays Learn about Chinese culture Learn basic Chinese language Do Chinese art such as Calligraphy and painting, paper cutting, mask making, etc Play Chinese games Learn Chinese songs and dances The teaching resources and materials will be saved for next year teacher who can continue doing this club, which I believe will be great helpful and save a lot of time and energy for the future.

Capstone Abstract 1 ( Building a curriculum for Arabic1) I work at Nicotra Early College and John Lavelle Charter School. The program was implemented at Lavelle four years ago, but it is the first year for Nicotra to have Arabic as a new critical language, I thought that the school needs a designed Arabic curriculum at Nicotra. I’ve designed and created a curriculum for Arabic I, as one of my goals is to help - both- the students & next year Arabic teachers to have rich and authentic resources that can be used at least as guidelines. I've designed the curriculum during the first week after distributing some surveys to my students asking about the topics they would like to learn this year. Then prepared the teaching materials & presentations, created Google Classrooms & uploaded the whole work to it. Besides, leaving hard copies of the materials for the coming teacher. Capstone abstract 2 ( Educational resources) I have a package of teaching materials that I would contribute with to the school such as: flash cards, posters, online resources , maps , entry and exit tickets and assessment worksheets, in addition to some papyrus, souvenirs and Arab costumes. Capstone Abstract #3 ( Arabic Language books section in the school library) I had a talk with the ELA team leader. I showed my interest in contributing with some Arabic books, stories and a dictionary. They welcomed the idea of having an Arabic corner in the school library. After the fall workshop, I would provide the school with hard and soft materials which would be useful for the coming teachers

Capstone Project: Abstract 1: (Arabic Curriculum for Level 1) This is the first year of the program in Leicester Middle school. There were no materials, books, lesson plans or instructional aids that could help me create lesson plans for my students. My idea is to create an Arabic Curriculum for level 1 that includes instructional calendar, classroom expectations, lesson plans, ppt presentations, Flashcards, online resources and ideas for traditional and online games. In addition, there will be assessment methods such as quizzes and tests aligned with the goals of the curriculum. I will leave both a hard copy and an electronic copy for the next teacher who will continue the program after me. These resources will serve as a guideline for the new teacher so he/ she does not have to invent the wheel and will save him/ her a lot of time. Capstone Project: Abstract 2: (Arabic Corner in the Library) When I arrived in Leicester Middle school, I went to the library looking for Arabic books or Arabic instructional Aids to help me in creating my lesson plans. I found none. The school has a large library but no Arabic books, bilingual dictionaries or books for teaching or learning Arabic as a foreign language. My idea is to establish an Arabic corner for students and staff members who want to know more about the Arabic language and culture.
