Kirsten Johnson
Bio
Kirsten Johnson is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but moved to Madison, Wisconsin, in 2004. She received a master’s degree in Science Education from UW-Madison, holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from UMass Amherst, and received her Wisconsin teaching credentials from UW Whitewater in 2012. She has worked in a wide range of education positions including teaching ESL in Shanghai, China, outdoor education, and has held positions at Montessori Middle School and at a large urban high school. In addition, she was a TA for undergraduate biology students at UW Madison. Currently, she teaches AP Biology, Human Anatomy, and Biology at Sauk Prairie High School, which is located about 30 miles outside of Madison, WI. This is her 10th year in this position. She decided to become a teacher because she believes education is one of the most important tools to change the world and teaches science because she is passionate about the topic and believes it is important for students to have a working knowledge of science in their adult lives. Outside of the classroom, she loves to travel and has been lucky to be able to visit many places around the world. She also grew up having exchange students in her house and is excited to help make the exchange teacher’s experience in WI a great one! For the 2023-2024 academic year, Ms. Johnson was the mentor teacher to Lo Yu-Ting from Taichung City, Taiwan.
