Alexander Porcelli
Bio
Alexander Porcelli is originally from New York City. He received his undergraduate degree in Arabic Language and Culture from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and completed graduate courses in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language. He lived and studied in Tunis and Oman in 2008-9 and 2019. In 2011, he helped to establish the full-time Arabic program at Washington Latin Primary Charter School. He is currently the lead Arabic teacher and directs the NYU new teacher residency at the school. In addition, he also serves as Department Chair and Instructional Coach at the school. He became an Arabic teacher to expand student travel opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa. He has led more than a dozen travel programs for International Diplomats, American, Iraqi, Qatari, and Mexican students. His students at Washington Latin have travelled to Doha and Morocco in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2023 and he has overseen trips to France, China, Taiwan, and Rome as well. For the 2023-2024 academic year, Mr. Porcelli was the mentor teacher to Laila El Baghazaoui from Bouznika, Morocco.
