Aaron Perry

Bio
Aaron Perry lives and teaches in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at Maple Street (Middle School) Magnet School for the Arts. He received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University majoring in History, Social Studies, and Science and minoring in Earth Science. He also received a master’s degree in US History and Political Science from the University of Michigan. Mr. Perry is going into his 22nd year of teaching, with all of his experience having taken place within urban Michigan. Currently he is an 8th grade Social Studies (US History) teacher at Maple Street. In the fall he will be starting his 14th year in Kalamazoo, MI after having previously worked in Detroit, MI and Saginaw, MI. Mr. Perry has a wife named Stephanie who serves as an Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix High School; one of Kalamazoo’s three high schools. In addition, he has two daughters, Brynnlee who is fifteen and will be a sophomore (2nd year) at his wife's school and Ella who is nine and going into the 4th grade in the fall. He went into teaching because he loves working with kids and within his subject areas of interest. Beyond the classroom, he is additionally a New Teacher Mentor to teachers in their first 3 years in Kalamazoo Public Schools, with this being his first year working with TCLP. He is looking forward to seeing the positive impact the exchange teacher will have in the Kalamazoo community. For the 2023-2024 academic year, Mr. Perry was the mentor teacher to Ezzat Belal from Damanhour, Egypt.
