TCLP teacher Mohamed Shady Mehanny has been critical in helping the program expand during the 2013-2014 school year, with a 40% increase in enrollment from the time he started to the following year. The increase in the enrollment is partially because of the engaging lessons he produced for co-teaching opportunities with other classes (in addition to his Arabic classes) both in the middle school and adjacent high school. Mohamed recently returned to Egypt with a proposal in hand to continue the momentum he generated by having students from Denver communicate with English classes in Egypt via Skype to improve all students' world language skills. The school, which has hosted a total of two TCLP teachers, is very pleased with the results of the program and has received the district’s approval to continue and expand the Arabic language program to more grades in the middle and high schools. They are currently looking to hire a full-time Arabic teacher for the 2014-2015 school year.
TCLP helped the Arabic programs at Thornton Middle and High Schools in Denver, Colorado grow from nothing to span five grades in two years.
