From May 5-7, 2022, the 2021-2022 cohort of Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) exchange teachers gathered in Washington, DC to attend the Spring Leadership Workshop. The workshop opened with a welcome dinner hosted at the American Councils office, which featured opening remarks by Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Senior Program Officer Michael Kuban and American Councils Senior Program Officer Zoe Kosoff. Several exchange teachers were also awarded prizes for the annual TCLP video and essay contests.
On May 6, the exchange teachers attended two sessions led by guest presenters. First, Jennifer Manise, Executive Director of the Longview Foundation, led a session on the importance of preparing globalized citizens. Then, Maureen Posten, Social Emotional Learning Specialist for Thompson School District in Colorado, led a session on transformational leadership in education. The workshop closed with remarks by Michael Kuban and Catharine Wilson, the Managing Director of Teaching and Learning Programs at American Councils, as well as the issuing of program certificates. Participants also attended a closing celebration dinner and a jazz performance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
