Ruth McDonough

Bio
Ruth McDonough is originally from Lancaster, New Hampshire. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College. She is currently an Arabic teacher and the coordinator of the Arabic program at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, a position she has held since 2009. She is also a member of the Upper School Diversity Committee, co-advisor to SHADES (Students Honoring All Differences and Embracing Similarities) and has coached girls’ basketball. She became a teacher to provide tools of communication and understanding to her students so that they may become active, informed citizens of the world, and has now been teaching for two years in all. Ms. McDonough is a member of the Cum Laude Society and Phi Beta Kappa. In 2008, she was named a fellow at the Center for Arabic Studies Abroad in Damascus, Syria, and in 2010, she participated in the Intensive Summer Language Institutes program. She has traveled extensively in Europe, including trips to attend international peace conferences in Scotland and Switzerland. In addition to her experiences in Damascus and Alexandria, she has also lived in Amman, Jordan and Aleppo, Syria. Most recently, she traveled with a group of students to Morocco. Ms. McDonough grew up in the mountains of Northern New England and takes great pleasure in gardening, hiking, cycling and creating various forms of art.

She is the mentor teacher for Kamel Gadallah from El Shahid Mukhtar Kamel Secondary School for Girls in Zifta, Egypt.
