Kolter Families Welcome Teacher from China
As school got underway this fall, Kolter Elementary School of Languages and Cultures welcomed Ms. Qu Bingbing from China, who has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the 2014 Teachers of Critical Languages Program.

Qu will teach Chinese at Kolter for the 2014-2015 school year.

Kolter participated in a nation-wide competition in order to host a TCLP teacher, and Qu is one of 22 teachers who have been selected from China and Egypt for participation in TCLP. "This is a great opportunity for [the Kolter] family to learn more about the Chinese culture and for Ms. Qu to learn more about the American culture," Kolter principal Steven Shetzer says. "Receiving this grant is another example of how hard we work to place Kolter on the map, not just in Houston, but around the world!"

Kolter employs highly skilled specialty teachers to support instruction in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and French, and the cultures associated with those languages, resulting in demonstrable academic gains and global recognition.
