OB Gates Elementary, conducted Dual Languages Program (DLP) in Virginia, celebrated the Chinese New Year for all January of 2023! The celebration was big so I worked with a Chinese teaching team and I was mainly in charge of one of the New Year program - the play of the Story of Nian. The celebration was held by Chinese Parade and several cultural carnivals (activities in chopsticks pinch balls game, calligraphy, paper cutting, etc.). The highlights were two live gala shows, participating by PTS (parents, teachers, and students) and the community. Students performed in Chinese play, Tai Chi and Chinese dance. Furthermore, Chinese cuisines and treats were warmly served and introduced for tasting. Create “We’re school family” reunion altogether to let the whole school feel and experience the real, authentic Chinese festival.
