Students can understand and answer when others ask them if they like or dislike certain sports in conversation: Do you like …? (你喜欢不喜欢...? ) I like … (我喜欢... ) I dislike…(我不喜欢...) 6. Students can understand and answer when others ask them if they can play certain sports in conversation: Can you play…? (你会不会…? ) I can play…(我会…. ) I can’t play… (我不会….)

John Pecoraro received a CLP grant to support a field trip for Chariho Regional High School. During the field trip, Chariho students will learn about Chinese art and culture at the Asian art collection at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art, experience authentic Chinese foods, and shop at a Chinese marketplace. These activities will provide students with the opportunity to make connections between Chinese culture and their own, to participate in the food customs of the culture being studied, and to interact with native speakers outside the classroom.

Wang Ling received a CLP grant to build a sister school relationship between her host school in Rhode Island, Chariho Regional High School, and her home school in China, No.1 High School of Liuyang. The main goals of the project are to coordinate regular virtual exchanges for students at both schools, offer professional development opportunities for teachers in the U.S. and China to share best practices, establish exchange programs for Chinese students to study at Chariho Regional High School as international students for U.S. students to study at No.1 High School of Liuyang or to volunteer, and to establish a Chinese language and culture classroom at Chariho Regional High School. Students at the host and home schools have already connected through virtual exchanges and will continue to connect though art exchanges, speech competitions, and other virtual activities. The principals of both schools have met through video conferences and the principal of Chariho Regional High School will visit No.1 High School of Liuyang in June 2019. This CLP will support language learning and cultural exchange between students, teachers, and administrators at the host and home schools.

Ivy Yiu received a CLP for “A Taste of China,” which is a unit of study and part of the curriculum for the Mandarin Chinese classes. Students currently enrolled in the school’s Mandarin Chinese class will learn about Chinese Tea history, Gongfu Tea Ceremony - how to conduct the tea ceremony, and Chinese tea culture. The culminating learning activity is to show case what students have learned of language and culture at the North Warren Regional Multicultural Fair. Each year, North Warren Regional School hosts a community-wide Multicultural Fair. During this fair, students and community members organize booths and tables to showcase diverse cultural traditions from around the world. "A Taste of China" is a simulation of a traditional Chinese tea house where customers experience Tea Ceremony, sample teas and light foods while enjoying the finer aesthetics of Chinese culture like calligraphy writing, painting, and Chinese music. Student facilitators will be responsible for overseeing three activities at the "Taste of China" booth.

Kong Yanli received a CLP grant to build a sister school relationship between her home school in China, Yichang Foreign Language Junior High School and Nettlehorst Elementary in Chicago, Illinois, which is in the same district as her host school in the US. The relationship started with a pen-pal program, joint-classroom projects, the establishment of a Chinese Club at Nettlehorst Elementary, and will develop into an in-person, student exchange. The visit to the U.S. will take place in the summer for about two weeks as a summer camp. As a result of this CLP, the schools hope to have a yearly visit to the U.S. and eventually have the opportunity for American students to visit Kong Yanli’s students in China.
