Wu Ning and her mentor teacher LeeAnn Manuel received a CLP grant to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The celebration was part of the school’s project “Tiger Fest” – a day open to students and community members. On the day of the celebration, experiences including sampling of Chinese food such as dumplings and Tanyuan, trying traditional Chinese tea, making crafts including papercutting, Chinese knotting, lanterns, and hanging ornaments were all available to attendees. People who partook in the Tiger Fest also had the opportunity to try calligraphy by writing spring couplets and the Fu sign. During the celebration there was a display of students’ work and a performance for the audience, showing what the students have learned in Chinese class and club. Students taking Chinese classes also went to Chinatown to watch the New Year Parade and enjoy authentic Chinese food.
